Larche Communications Announces Third Pledge to RVH

Larche Communications announces third pledge to RVH Immediately after completing their second $500,000 pledge to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), Larche Communications Inc. (LCI) announced they are making yet another commitment to the health centre. In their latest and third $500,000 pledge, known as Radio for Cardiology, LCI will help equip a cardiac catheterization lab as part of a future advanced cardiac care program at RVH. As the parent company of KICX 106 and 104.1 The Dock, LCI will enlist both radio stations to help fundraise across the region. “We have always prided ourselves on giving back to the communities we serve,” says Paul Larche, president, LCI. “Both KICX 106 and The Dock have a phenomenal family of listeners, community groups, advertisers and partners who support our endeavours wholeheartedly - whether it be our concerts at Casino Rama or our annual Radiothon. We would never have been able to fulfill our previous pledges if not for them. They believe in the importance of improving healthcare for all residents of Simcoe and Muskoka and we feel the same. We’re fortunate to have a wide-reaching medium like radio to relay the importance of expanding cardiac services for patients.” North Simcoe Muskoka is the only region in the province without advanced cardiac services.  As a result, every year more than 3,500 heart patients must travel to centres outside the region for lifesaving cardiac care.  The development of an advanced cardiac care program will have a significant impact on bringing cardiac care close to home for residents.  The services RVH will provide, in partnership with Southlake Regional Health Centre, include cardiac diagnostics and interventions such as coronary angiogram and angioplasty, giving patients access to faster treatment, a shorter hospital stay and less travel time. “RVH’s relationship with Larche Communications, is building into quite a tradition of which we’re thrilled to be a part,” says Janice Skot, president and CEO. “From their first pledge to the health centre in 2009, to completing their second pledge and turning right around and announcing Radio for Cardiology, RVH is truly fortunate to have them as great partners in bringing care close to home. Larche Communications and RVH have a new shared goal - to bring advanced cardiac care to our health centre – and we look forward to doing this together.” History of LCI’s support for RVH: 2009 – 2011: Radio for Radiation – pledge helped purchase a new Interventional Radiology suite in RVH’s expanded Imaging department (opened in 2012) 2011 – 2015: Radio for Radiology – pledge supported the purchase a CT Simulator for radiation treatment planning in the Simcoe Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre at RVH 2015 – 2018: Radio for Cardiology – pledge will help equip a cardiac catheterization lab as part of RVH’s future advanced cardiac care program With RVH’s $450 million expansion complete, the health centre is focused on continuing to bring specialized programs closer to home, including advanced heart care, child mental health and women’s cancer services, while expanding clinical research. RVH relies 100 per cent on the generosity of donors to fund new equipment that ensures safe, high quality care. About Larche Communications Inc. Larche Communications Inc. 6 Reasons Why We Need a Cath Lab at RVH – Radio for Cardiology

$

0
Why a Cardiac Catheterization Lab? 1. Heart disease is the #2 killer in Canada. 2. Simcoe Muskoka lacks the "gold standard". The gold standard of cardiac care means receiving treatment in a cardiac catheterization lab (Cath Lab) within 90 minutes of having a heart attack. 3. The closest Cath Lab in our region is at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket. Unfortunately, this means most Simcoe Muskoka residents live outside this critical window of opportunity. 4. More than 3,000 patients every year must leave our region for this life saving care. 5. By installing a cardiac Cath Lab at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, most Simcoe Muskoka residents will have access to lifesaving cardiac care within the critical time period. 6. This will save lives and offer treatment closer to home. Donate Online on the RVH Foundation Website What is a Catheterization Lab? A Cath Lab is actually very similar to The Interventional Radiology (IR) Machine, which our stations supported in our first R4R campaign! It’s very similar technology but used for a different purpose. Cardiologists instead of radiologists run the equipment. Cath Labs are used for both Angiography and Angioplasty. An Angiogram is a test that helps doctors see any plaque in the coronary arteries and helps detect narrowing or blockage. This is the only reliable test that shows the blood vessels of the heart and determines whether the patient may require surgery. During an Angiogram, if the doctor detects a blockage, they may be able to correct it with an Angioplasty. In this procedure, the doctor expands the artery using a balloon inserted through the catheter used in the angiogram. The doctor can place a stainless steel mesh tube called a “Stent” to keep it open. GREEN BIN GETAWAY

The County of Simcoe launched its green bin organics program in 2008 and collects approximately 10,000 tons of green bin material each year! The program has been widely successful in increasing landfill diversion and fostering more environmentally responsible waste habits among residents. 104.1 The Dock & the County of Simcoe want you to show off your green bin pride! Download the Larche Radio App and send in a photo of you with your green bin and you could be the lucky winner of our grand prize valued at more than $500.00 courtesy of the County of Simcoe! It includes: A 1 night stay at Stone Gate Inn in Orillia for 2 with deluxe continental breakfast Golf for 2 at any one of Hawkridge, Settler's Ghost or Bonaire golf courses Tourism Simcoe County robe & honey basket A Dickey Bee Honey basket with a selection of local treats 6 golf balls To download the Larche Radio App click the links below:       Look for this icon in your app store:  The draw date is Friday, September 18th at noon. We'll announce the winners name on-air and through social media. If you're new to using your green bin, you can find a complete list of accepted materials at http://www.simcoe.ca/SolidWasteManagement/Pages/organics.aspx What are some of the benefits of using the green bin organics program? Separation of materials into a green bin helps save landfill capacity for other materials which cannot be recycled or composted. Processing organics produces valuable compost or fertilizer. Keeping organics out of garbage reduces harmful greenhouse gas production in our landfills. Diverting organics through the green bin program helps protect our groundwater resources. Demonstrates environmental stewardship. The future of organics in Simcoe County: The County has been working on two major Solid Waste Management projects since 2013-a proposed Organics Processing Facility (OPF) and a proposed Materials Management Facility (MMF). The OPF would provide the County with a facility where green bin materials (also called source-separated organics) and potentially leaf and yard wastes could be processed and converted into other valuable products, such as compost or fertilizer enhancing local soil conditions. The County currently hauls green bin material to a composting facility in Hamilton. The MMF would provide the County with a location for consolidation and transfer of waste from multiple collection vehicles for more economical shipment to other disposal or processing locations. Our garbage, organics, and recycling is currently transferred from a contracted facility located in Barrie, which is not managed or operated by the County. The County is in the process of siting the proposed OPF and MMF and Committee of the Whole recently reviewed a report on the short list of sites which include seven possible sites for the OPF and five possible sites for the MMF to be considered for further evaluation. Also for consideration is the potential for a combined facility with five possible sites identified as being feasible for a combined waste management facility. Council will continue to consider the proposals and further public consultation will occur in the fall. Potential benefits of processing our own organics in Simcoe County: Environmental leadership. Production of nutrient-rich compost or fertilizer to enhance local soil conditions and support growing initiatives. Address the need to find alternative solutions to landfills, maximizing life spans of existing landfills and reducing the need for export of our waste. Better control of processing costs and long-term cost savings. Reduction in greenhouse gas emissions due to our shortening the haulage distances to processing (Note: The County currently hauls organics to a facility in Hamilton, Ontario). Ability to increase our diversion by potentially adding materials to our green bin program (pet waste and in the long term diapers) that are not currently accepted as part of our existing external organics processing contract. Potential benefits of operating our own materials management facility: Estimated cost savings of $13 million in contracted transfer costs over the next 20 years. Calculated payback period of 6 years. Utilize secured funding of up to $2.1 million from the Continuous Improvement Fund. Protection against rising contracted transfer costs. Creation of local employment opportunities. Operational flexibility and ability to adapt to changes in collections and/or processing arrangements. Timeline: August 11, 2015                Committee of the Whole to receive Item CCW 15-240 August 25, 2015                County Council to ratify decision Fall 2015                               Public and stakeholder consultations Early 2016                            Council to review and provide direction on the preferred site(s) Early 2017                            Council to review and provide direction on organics processing technology 2017                                       Proceed to approvals Details about the proposed facilities including siting methodology, anticipated costs, completed meetings and reports can be found at www.simcoe.ca/opf and www.simcoe.ca/mmf.
